Welcome to AOPOLY

  • Engr. Dr. Ahemen Samuel

The Polytechnic Management, Staff, Students and the entire Polytechnic Community are highly honoured to welcome you to our Polytechnic. Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev is a state institution owned by the Benue State Government. It was founded in 1926 as a Farm Centre by the Colonial Administration.

In 1973, it was upgraded to a School of Agriculture offering programs leading to the award of Ordinary National Diploma (OND). In 1983, the Benue State Government upgraded it to a College of Agriculture and empowered it to award National and Higher National Diplomas (ND and HND respectively). The now Polytechnic was renamed Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture in 1992, in memory of the late paramount traditional ruler of Tivland where it is located, HRH Orchiviligh (Dr.) James Akperan Orshi, Tor Tiv III. History is indeed kind to us; on 10th June 2020, the State Government again upgraded the institution to a Polytechnic status, now called Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev (AOPOLY).

To actualize its mandate to train middle and high-level manpower with skills in various sectors, the institution as a Polytechnic at take off would run programmes in National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma under five schools. These schools include Agriculture, Engineering, Science and Vocational Studies, Management Sciences and Post Graduate Studies.

It is significant to note too that the Polytechnic keeps to its motto of Learn by Doing by exposing the students to robust theoretical and practical training throughout their tenure as students. This is accomplished by the availability of adequate manpower, well stocked laboratories and sizable demonstration farms (crops and livestock) among other facilities in the Polytechnic. The Polytechnic also operates commercial farms in Poultry, Piggery, Fisheries, Plant Nurseries, etc. under our Consultancy Services Unit.

The Polytechnic is located 82 kilometers from Makurdi, the State capital of Benue State, Nigeria.
